“A Guilty Pleasure is defined as something that would ruin us if our friends knew about it.”
Music
For the crowd that I hang with, New Found Glory is my favorite gulity pleasure. I just love these guys, as I do Sum 41, Blink 182, Fenix TX…but New Found is my fav. I don’t mind the nasily voice of Jordan, i kind of like it. Plus, Kieran LOVES them, so I can play them over and over again and since he’s a toddler, he doesn’t tire of them. He knows the entire chorus of Hit or Miss and Boy Crazy! “This song’s goes out to girls that we haven’t met just yet/This song’s for stupid girls, who think that every boy is all about them.”Trance, electronica, namely DJ Tiësto, Sasha, Chemical Brothers, Ferry Corstein…Well, it’s only become a g.p. of late, since my friend John moved away, and we don’t see Sean and Bryan much. No one else we hang with these days is much into this music, but I could listen to it all the time! I don’t care who thinks it’s just repetitive noise, I think it’s got something, something that makes me high, want to move, and yet, makes me calm. Yeah, that makes no sense…
Books
I’ve read Valley of the Dolls twice, and I could pick it up at any time. I’m not sure if this is really a g.p., many people like this book. But not sure all my friends would read it over and over again, as I would.
“The only hit that comes out of a Helen Lawson show is Helen Lawson, and that’s ME, baby, remember?”
Invisible monsters by Chuck Palahniuk. Only Rice likes this book. Fiancé’s don’t count. I love it love it love it, have read it maybe 3 times already. And I know all the different groups I hang with (young, old, co-workers, rockers, you name it!) don’t think much of Chuck or want to give him a chance. I dare you! DARE! “All god does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. We must never, ever be boring.”
All Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Books by Laurell K. Hamilton. Funny, the first one IS called Guilty Pleasures. Actually, quite a few of my friends might enjoy this series if they just would get started, I just don’t know if all of them would be as obsessed with it as I have become. I have never breazed through so many books this fast in a row. And they’re not thin books, or written for the simple minded. The world she’s created is so chock full of good stuff! Violence, gore, sex, vampires, werewolves, were-leopards, were-rats, faires, zombies that don’t eat flesh, necromancers, human servants…need I say more? “Most women complain that there are no single, straight men left. I’d just like to meet one who’s human.”
Movies
Center Stage
I like dancing. I’ll admit the acting is horrible. But the dancing…ooh the dancing! And teen drama. Come on! “I am the best goddamn dancer in the American Ballet Academy. Who the hell are you? Nobody.”Dirty Dancing
I seem to be on to something here with the dancing. But yeah, it’s true, I have always liked this movie, and I still do. Maybe it brings back a good feeling of my youth, when I was so young and lame. Whatever it is, “nobody puts baby in a corner”, but everyone can laugh because I like this movie. A LOT.Moonstruck
Again, saw it in my childhood and still love it when this movie comes on TV. Don’t know how to justify this selection. Brings a smile to my face everytime I see it. “Old man, you give those dogs another piece of my food and I’m gonna kick you ’til you’re dead!”Mannequin
Ok, kinda don’t know what to say about this one. Just fills me with glee when I know it’s on t.v.
“At least she’ll never tell you that your hips are too fat.”
Food
I guess for it to be guilty, it would have to be junk, correct? Hmmmm, what would shock people to know I love?
Yoo hoo–anyone else care for this delectible chocolate drink but me? Any 30 year olds perhaps?
Slimfast–not even for the purpose of loosing weight, I just really seem to like those protein or diety type drinks that are “fake” chocolate.
Apple Butter on Cottage Cheese–grosses lots o’people out, esp. out here on the west coast. Back east it’s a bit more common. Sweet goodness on lumpy cottage cheese, yum yum! Only thing I can’t do is mix it up. Looks just too disgusting to swallow though it tastes the same! I have to pour the apple butter on top and dip the spoon down to get some of each or use two separate bowls. This could be filed under Food OCD’s, huh?
Yellow Mustard on Potato Chips–Crunchier, sturdier chips the better! This started in Elementary school. I don’t remember who did it, but I copied along with lots of other wee tots at lunchtime, and the teacher in charge told us we couldn’t do it. Who knows why, maybe it grossed her out? Anyway, we continued and to this day, I still love to dip plain, salty, greasy potato chips into yellow mustard!
I’ll have to think of more. Check in another time.
